Ree Nevels, age 28,
is a single mother of two Beautiful children. Ree was born in South Central Los Angeles, CA but proudly reps Compton, Ca hard because after she left her marriage of seven years in 2014 due to Domestic violence, and after overcoming homelessness, Compton is where she was able to move herself and her babies and get back on her feet. Often times she says “We might not have a choice in where we are born but we do have a choice in where we choose to reside.” While living in a homeless shelter, Ree enrolled into El Camino Compton College where she majored in Social Work. Ree has a huge heart for helping others but she believes that she is strategically called to help young girls and women. Aside from being ½ owner of Vocal.VocalRadio™ Ree has another business called “A Distinguished Queen™”. (ADQ) which she is the CEO and Founder of. ADQ was literally birthed through Ree’s pain. Ree believes that “No matter where you’ve been, no matter where you currently are, and no matter where you’re going, you still have a unique purpose. There is something on the inside of you that sets you apart from everyone else. There is something that only you possess that makes you distinguished. She believes that no matter what you’ve experienced in life, there is still room for you to win.” ADQ travels to various schools speaking to young girls monthly, as well as many other establishments such as juvenile halls, foster homes, prisons, churches, empowerment events, etc.
Aside from ADQ, Ree is also an ambassador for the Black College Expo, and she also works for a Non Profit 501c3 Corporation called “The Movement”. While working under “The Movement” she is a paid Mentor and Peer Advisor and works throughout various High Schools assisting juniors and seniors with day to day life. Eventually, in the near future upon completion of her last semester at El Camino Compton College Ree plans on transferring to Cal State Long Beach to further pursue her Social work degree, and once that is completed she plans to venture off to Clark Atlanta University to obtain her Master’s degree in Social Work with a minor in Education. And if that isnt enough, she is in the process of completing her first self published book. She takes no credit for anything she does, but she willingly credits God for everything. She will tell you that its through HIM and HIM alone that she is where she is today. She closes out her segment of the show every Friday with her favorite scripture, Jeremiah 29:11. She states that this particular scripture got her through various trying times in her life.
The whole purpose of vocal was to create a platform where she as well as others can express ourseves freely and loudly. Ree wants the audience to know that their voice/opinion matters, and that NO dream is too big to accomplish. Anything is possible! For every one person that don’t believe in you, two will. Vocal is a place where we share our truths, share our stories, share our gifts/talents, and we give others the opportunity to do so as well. We are just two young African American Queen’s trying to put put other people on. We’re all about giving back while giving you a voice.
